Setting Up an SIL Zoom Account
Go to https://sil.zoom.us and sign in using your SIL IDP/SSO credentials. That will automatically create a free Basic level Zoom account for you.
Download and install the Zoom client program desktop app via the link at the bottom of the page, or go to https://zoom.us/download.
Launch the app then sign in to Zoom using the IDP/SSO button. When it prompts for the organization/company, enter "sil" (no quotes) in the field and continue - that will open the SIL IDP/SSO authentication prompt. Signing will return you to the Zoom app.
The free level Zoom account gives you 40 minute group meetings. A group meeting has 3 or more participants, the countdown timer starts the moment the third participant joins the meeting. You can have as many group meetings as you like. There is no time limit for a one-on-one Zoom meeting (well, 30 hours, but who wants a meeting that long?).
A Zoom license can be purchased through us, which will remove the 40 minute meeting limitation, add the ability to record meetings to Zoom's cloud, increase the max capacity of your meetings to 500 (from 100), and include a webinar 500 add-on license, among other minor features. The license costs $140/year prorated to the SIL fiscal year. All we need is a finance account to charge (project, department, or personal WBT). Email us at zoommgr_sil@sil.org to request a license.
Zoom has excellent extensive support webpages for how to use Zoom. Here's one webpage that has lots of links to guide you through Zoom's many features: https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/sections/201728913-Joining-Starting
There's even a Zoom Learning Center: https://learning.zoom.us which has numerous videos organized by topic.
